Product Safety

Product Safety

At The Little Peanut Company, we take great care to offer products that are not only beautiful, but thoughtfully designed to support early years development. Every item within our toy and sensory collections is carefully selected for its developmental benefits, and as parents ourselves, we understand just how important safety is when choosing products for little ones.

We encourage all parents and caregivers to read the information below and to always refer to the product description, labels, and packaging for specific care instructions, age guidance, and safety warnings.

UKCA & CE Marking – Keeping Your Little Ones Safe

In the UK, it is a legal requirement that any toy or teether sold for children is safe for its intended use. This means that toys must be tested to the relevant Toy Safety Standards, which assess factors such as:

  • Strength and durability during play

  • Flammability and fire safety

  • Chemical composition, including paints and dyes

  • Correct labelling and age-appropriate warnings

Products that meet these requirements will carry either a UKCA mark (UK Conformity Assessed) or a CE mark (European Conformity, applicable in the UK for products placed on the market before the end of 2021).

These marks help parents and gift buyers identify products that have been independently tested and deemed safe for children within the stated age guidelines.

Our Promise to You

Any item we make or sell that has been manufactured for the purpose of play — or has play value — is tested to the relevant UK and/or European Toy Safety Standards (EN71). This means these products are safe for children to use within the age limits and guidance provided.

Some items may still carry specific warnings (for example, not suitable for children under 3 years due to small parts), so we always recommend checking the full product description and any labelling on the product or packaging for detailed information.

Our Sensory Collection

Our sensory collections are designed to support sensory exploration and fine motor development through shared play experiences between parent and child. These collections include a combination of traditional toys, teethers, and carefully selected sensory resources.

Some sensory resources — such as foil blankets — are not manufactured as toys and therefore do not carry a UKCA or CE mark. This means they have not been tested under toy safety standards and should be used solely as developmental aids, under full supervision of a parent or caregiver.

This does not mean these items are unsafe. It simply means they are not classified as toys and have not undergone toy-specific testing. Any relevant warnings will be clearly communicated in the product description or on the packaging.

For these items:

  • Children should never be left unsupervised

  • Items should not be placed in the mouth

  • Products should be stored safely out of reach once playtime has finished

We are always clear about whether a product is classified as a toy or a sensory resource. However, if you are ever unsure or would like further clarification, please don’t hesitate to contact us — we’re always happy to help.
